When the temperatures start to change, we often think about how to outfit ourselves for the cooler weather. Hats, gloves, coats and other warm clothes all start to come out of winter storage to get put into regular rotation. If the weather is starting to cool in your area, instead of focusing solely on what you’ll be wearing this winter, why not spend a little time focusing on how you will outfit your car for the cooler weather as well? Here are three reasons why you should break out the winter tires while you break out your winter coat:
- Safety– Even if you live in an area without a lot of snow, winter tires are still a great safety addition to your vehicles. Roads can be freezing even if the weather outside is above freezing temperatures. Winter tires not only come with wider and specialized grooves for gripping, but they are also made out of a softer rubber that won’t become brittle in the cold weather.
- Stability– When you use winter tires, you are helping your car conform to a more slippery roadwork, providing a more stable car while you drive on unstable surfaces.
- Flexibility– The ability of the rubber in your tires to be flexible is key in keeping your tires gripping the road. Rubber in regular tires is made to deal with only a certain range of temperatures, and in the winter, these tires can become inflexible and brittle. Winter tires have a different rubber composition, making them able to flex and grip.
