If you are like most people, you probably only consider having a wheel alignment done when you get new tires. However, depending on how much you drive, how you drive, and any “curb checks” that may have occurred, you may need to consider having a wheel alignment done far more often. There are a number of reasons why this is important not just at new tire time.
- Preserve Tires – Tires are not inexpensive, and you want to make them last as long as possible. Getting tires with a great rating in terms of mileage won’t help you, though, if you haven’t kept up with tire rotation and a needed wheel alignment. The warranty won’t cover excessive wear due to misalignment, so you’ll be footing the bill yourself for new tires. If you notice wear on one side of the tires, it is a good bet you need a wheel alignment.
- Driving Fatigue – If your vehicle is out of alignment, it takes more energy to keep the vehicle under control. You may not notice this on short drives, but if you plan to take a long road trip it is a good idea to have a wheel alignment done before you leave.
- Accident Potential – By the same note of keeping the vehicle under control, there is more chance for an accident should you be momentarily distracted and the vehicle heads out of the proper lane. It is also easier to lose control in adverse weather conditions when you have to fight to keep the vehicle going straight or do a correction during a slide doesn’t give you the response you anticipated.
